Nine ParaSport Spokane athletes are headed to Los Angeles to compete at UCLA’s Drake Stadium at the 2017 U.S. Paralympic Track & Field Championships. This event is not just the National Championship, but also serves as the selection trials for two international teams. The 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London England, and the World Para Athletics Junior Championships in Notwil Switzerland The squad is a unique blend of rookies and veterans. With 2016 Paralympic Gold Medallist and World Record Holder Rachael Morrison leading the charge coming off a strong Club Throw performance and world leading distance at the Desert Challenge Grand Prix last month. Fresh off of the WIAA State meet, Isaiah Rigo and Spencer Kimbro have also earned their international starts with Rigo attending the 2013 & 2015 World Championships in Lyon and Doha respectively and Kimbro joining the team at the 2015 World’s in Doha. Newcomer sensation Jaleen Roberts is also looking to make her first World’s team and has ran one of the fastest 200m times in the world this year. Phillip Croft, coming off his first Grand Prix event win in the 1500m in Arizona this past month is looking to make the next step up the international competitive rung and gain some valuable competitive experience at this his first U.S. Paralympic National Championships. Also experiencing their first Nationals this year are Elizabeth Floch, Hannah Dederick, Jackson Atwood and Sophie Munter. In a year of firsts, this young crew also tackled Bloomsday and competed at the Desert Challenge Grand Prix last month. The majority of the team departs Thursday Morning from the Spokane Airport and returns late Sunday night. Competition begins Friday and continues through Sunday morning.
